About The Lung Assocation

The Lung Association, Alberta & NWT (TLA) raises and allocates funds for critical research, advocates in public policy, provides patient support and education, and is the primary information source for the lung health of all.

TLA was first established as the Alberta Tuberculosis Association in 1939. During the tuberculosis (TB) epidemic, it educated the public about TB, conducted mass chest x-rays, and provided rehabilitation services for TB sanatorium patients. Recognized as Alberta’s oldest charity, The Lung Association has expanded it’s initiatives over the years to include patient education, research and overall lung health awareness. Today, TLA focuses its efforts and resources on all aspects of lung health including asthma, COPD, sleep apnea, flu and infectious diseases, environmental issues, tobacco control and continued work in TB. Supported by their Board of Directors, staff team, and research and service sections, The Lung Association is more than just a cause, it is about Albertans and their lung health.
