The CASA Electrical Efficiency and Conservation Project Team (EEC) was created to implement the electricity efficiency and conservation recommendations (#s 65 – 68) found within the November 2003 report of the Electricity Project Team to the CASA Board, with the aim of increasing electricity efficiency and expanding conservation efforts within the province.
The key recommendations are:
- The Government of Alberta will develop an overarching Energy Conservation and Efficiency Framework for Alberta.
- The Government of Alberta will ensure the Energy Conservation and Efficiency Framework for Alberta is developed and implemented collaboratively with stakeholders, striving for consensus within the process.
CASA also recommended important elements of the proposed Framework, including all uses of energy (i.e., electrical, heating and transportation).
The Electrical Efficiency and Conservation Project Team recognized that this issue transcends electrical efficiency and conservation and recommended that it be expanded to include all types of energy.

Reports
- The final report, The Need for an Overarching Energy Conservation and Efficiency Framework in Alberta, was approved by consensus of the CASA board in November 30, 2006.
- A second report, EEC: Electrical Efficiency and Conservation in the Residential Sector in Alberta, was also completed in early 2007.

Saving energy helps protect our environment. Energy efficiency and conservation is an important element in maximizing Alberta’s competitive edge, the response to climate change and ensuring affordable energy options for consumers and producers alike.
Improving efficiency and using less energy creates “wins” for everyone by:
- reducing air emissions, including the greenhouse gases, to gain environmental, health and, potentially, economic benefits.
- saving consumers money. Most residential power is used for lighting and refrigeration, two uses for which more efficient options are available.
- extending the life of Alberta’s non-renewable fossil fuels.
- avoiding or postponing the need for capital investment in new facilities and infrastructure.
